The govt CAN indirectly influence demand but they CAN simply alter supply as and when they want. Remember the banning of chewing gum?
Hmm yes, the gum banning simply drove people to drive across the causeway to get them or bring them back when overseas. They can stop the supply but they can't stop the demand. Sure it reduced the supply, but chewing gum is what I'd call a minor (non-addictive) habit. Sex on the other hand, is an addiction for quite a lot of brothers here. So the demand will *always* be there and be there in quantities. Consider what the sex industry was like pre-sammyboy and pre-TN - Singaporeans going overseas or GL. It didn't suddenly appear because of massage parlours. It's always been there but just that now, it's more visible. That is probably a flaw in the supply/demand argument.

If we really wan to attract talent to migrate to Singapore, they should be accepted based on their academic merits, regardless of their income level. Btw, if u have a chance to get to know some China’s student/scholars, u will know that 9 out of 10 does not want to become citizen here, even if govt INVITE THEM PERSONALLY…their ideal is to MAKE USE OF SINGAPORE TO EARN $$$ and build up their CV/experience so that they stand a chance to work and migrate to US …
The grass is always greener on the Western side, both for Chinese and for Singaporeans. Many Singaporeans who can afford to migrate over to the West, would do so. And a reality check here - immigration policies for US and UK requires that any student entering the country must guarantee their financial status especially for university studies. In other words they must be able to provide evidence of financial support for the period of time they're there. This means getting a bank, or guarantors, to certify that you have $50,000 x no of years that's needed to keep you as a non-working student. So income level determines a large no of overseas students going to US/UK, not academic level. For the Chinese students, no such guarantee is required, because the gahment knows... if we don't provide the education service for these students, they'll just go somewhere else! And the gahment knows very well that the majority will not stay in Singapore (can't bond them). Instead, they ask the same question - if we don't provide the education space for these Chinese students, will they go to (say) Malaysia to get an English education? At a conservative figure of 30,000 mothers with their single kids here, that's a lot of income for cash-strapped schools.

Tuina is a traditional Chinese method of massaging to help the blood flow and muscle relief in the body and it is perfectly legal to practice Tuina in Singapore. There is no need for partition rooms with locks for traditional Tuinas…
Wait. How can the gahment distinguish between tuina and massage? Is there a body of professionals (eg Chinese Association of Tuina Practitioners) somewhere in China that can certify the therapists as Tuina trained? It was only the last 10 years when acupuncture became a certified practice in China alone. Remember that a lot of these kinds of therapies are not 'taught' in schools where you get a diploma at the end, but passed down by training. I don't know if Tuina is certifiable now but I don't think it'll happen that quickly. Who knows, maybe the gahment is creating a demand for such certification and someone will do that soon.

Rich PRC kids do not need to come to Singapore to study... their top choice is U.S. and Australia. Why bother to come to Singapore? What is there to attract them? NUS? U must be joking...
There are hundred of thousands of disable, handicapped, poor and unfortunate Singaporeans suffering in low income families or abandoned orphans that need your PITY AND HELP TO SURVIVE TOO...

About 15% of Singaporean are low income families and that means surviving of less than $1000 income per month (some are jobless) for a household of 3 – 5…
Singapore are being fucked up down left right by them in setting up our INDUSTRIAL PARKS there, dun u know? That also marked the end of the political career of the MP that help setup Suzhou park...

You should revisit your economic 101 theory books and look at the factors that can affect demand and supply...
ohhh... so they are supposed to be PRAISED instead? should the housewives start to invite them home for dinner and maybe even offer them free laundry services???
That Tall gracious SM's wife said that $600,000 is peanuts... That tall gracious SM said that Hougang and Potong Pasir will become a slum very soon if they do not vote for PAP and forget that the residents in Hougang and Potong Pasir have to pay taxes too.

You seem in favour of gahment's actions?
Do a PESTEL analysis and Porter 5 forces analysis. You will find out a lot about this industry. I just did it out of fun.

Not many people will want to do Tuina fully clothe without oil and open concept. I believe a lot of bros would support my statement.
I also do not like a guy to do Tuina for me. Do you like it? This is a socio-cultural issue. Not all guys like to be touched by guys lor.
Rick kids from China will go to the states. When I mean rich, these people have parents who earn US$15,000 per month. For the middle income, whose parents earn US$1500 (consider a lot in China), they will have to send theirkids to somewhere more affordable. I have asked many pdmm and I know how they fare in their financial status. I think this bro misunderstands my words.
OPen your eyes to the world.

I totally agree with Bro PKTM here.
In the factory I am working in, there are quite a few china staff (Not just operators, also engineers and techs) Most of the operators I work with are fine. The problem are with the techs and engineers that have studied here to get their diploma and degree.
These people are Damn Arrogant and have no respect for Singaporeans and Chinese operators alike. In Fact their favorite phase is "Singapore is so stupid, Let us study and work here so we can enjoy life that when bond is over, we will go to a western country and say bye bye to stupid Singapore" (along this line)
It really pisses me off especially when they like to say it in your face.

Hmmm... I am not so sure that the new ruling only applies to the HDB estates... I heard from one of the PRC massasue that they are jobless too... and they are operating in the shopping centre in town... I think the rules generally applies to all PRCs working in TN.. not just HDB estates...
Many bros mentioned that the PRCs take Singapore as a stepping stone to US... I agree with that as I personally have encounter them.. however, there are some who in the end stay in Singapore... Well, I guess the gahmen are targetting that lot..(which is like probably 10-20%???).. Worth it or not? I am not sure...
Ya lah..for those bros who have yet to tried, better be quick before they're history

In a nutshell, majority of the economists believe in the power of supply and demand.
The power of supply and demand only help in determining the market price and the corresponding quantity i.e. market equilibrium of the commodity in question. They believe in the power of supply and demand in its own ability to determine the market equilibrium and hence the price both party are willing to buy and sell. Nothing more than that. Got supply sure got demand? Got demand sure got supply? Only if the price is right...

Like i said, there are hundred of thousands of disable, handicapped, poor and unfortunate Singaporeans suffering in low income families or abandoned orphans that need our pity and help to survive too. You may want to visit the old folks home, orphanage, 1-2 room flats estates, various welfare associations setup like Renci and see for yourself how do our fellow singaporeans fare in their financial status, just because they are lowly educated, ridden by diseases/handicapped and only given miserable handouts by our govt. Did you know there are many poor Singaporean children survived on only 1 meal a day and usually on bread, Maggie mee and plain water alone. Please compare them with our dear PDMMs.
Open your eyes to the people suffering beside you first.

I am not in favour of the govt actions, as a matter of fact, it is precisely due to the govt actions that PDMM problem arises. The industrial parks are the best examples of the old day practice that secret expertise/skills cannot be shared with non-relatives, as they will surely setup their own shops to snatch your customers away. Do you know that the Chinese started building another industrial park exactly modeling suzhou-sing JV industrial park and it is located JUST BESIDE the JV one? The Chinese said that there is nothing in the JV agreement to prevent them from IMMEDIATELY COPYING THE JV industrial park and nothing to stop them from running another industrial park alongside the JV one to prevent Singapore to profit all the money?
Btw, you forget what is the major criticism of the Porter 5 force analysis. There should be a 6th force - relative power of stakeholders like the govt and in subsequent years, development of the all important extension to the porter 5 force to include the complementor - the govt.

Yes and the sg investors are paying for all the infrastructure for the suzhou park and the chinese industrial park is benefiting from all these investment as they are using it for free.
