Hang flower for some is more of a showy thing, to impress and hook the singers, to create competitive atmosphere. I heard the singers get 70% and the ktv gets 30%. Better give to the girl under private arrangements.

Agree but the catch is that if the singer always cannot hit target, the boss will not want to extend her contract here. So got to do some balancing act lor..

That's the rationale my buddies give for tipping mummies heavily instead of opening bottle. And I think the logic is flawed.

Sure, the mamasan doesn't get that much money from each bottle opened in her name. But management does keep tabs on just how much the mamasan contributes to company profits in terms of bottles, and that could be a decider in her performance appraisal. In contrast, just tipping her will net her more money, but would she trade that for job security?

Now apply that same logic to hanging flowers....

as one of the bros mentioned earlier, he wanted to tip the singer $100 but she tols him to hang flower instead... yes, from what i heard, they rather get flowers than tips cos the singers go by ranking based on the amount of flowers they get... have been there at dc a few times. personally find the 2 singers bao er n cherrie very pretty. very tempted to hang but didn't cos from what i see, i will never b able to fight with the big taokays who hung thousands of $$$ on them... so if me hang $100, at most they come smile smile shake hand sit sit a bit out of courtesy but other than that, they won't give any shit about me

Yes bro hv to agreed with you, only big timer the singer will take note, small hanger they will just shake your hand, give you a smile and sit for awhile than exucse themselves and that goes your $100

Very true lah! Now Yaru is gone, Cherry is the angpai there, and she wouldn't really be impressed with the $100 small change you fork up. Better just sit there and enjoy the singing.

I don't know whether any of you bros find the "singer manageress" Huizi an annoyance. She came to your table more often than the singers, and when you are not hanging flowers, she would pester you with suggestions to hang this one hang that one. Then at the end, she also expects at least a $50 tip.

Bro Gangjian, are you refering to the elderly lady. If that is the one than I know who you are talking about. she always have a habit to ask her customers to hang flower and yes and of the day she will need you to tip her well because she thinks she is doing a good job.
You rite is good to just sit back and watch those singers sing their favourite songs instead of hanging just peanuts compare to those big fishes there

Why some singers don dare to take money is once caught they get fined heavily... and frankly when company get 30% is not a lot coz don forget theie expense and etc... their liquor and beer is not as ex as those lap sap places... moreover i agree that they have a target to hit and usually certain amounht of flowers result in some rewards ... DC is more of a big joint compare to others ... I usually go to other small joints as it is better and not like so realistic there... 1 more thing is i disagree abt shake hand and leave theory maybe coz i go to smaller places as some are actually more to frens and i did have my fair share of fun and not coz i hang a lot... also see how u all talk and etc, they also beings... but frankly 7 out of 10 is see money but that don mean no gd 1 lah but rare lor ~~

Guess its all about competition and winning... once you start, quite hard to control also... esp. after you drink more.... kekeke... like gambling... if hang 1k already, and lose, then will feel like hanging more to win... rather than let the 1k burn... btw, mi normally only hang $50...

As for why people hang flower. i think its something like FACE,
the more they hang the more face they think they get. the singer
will flock to his table and also the papasan or mamasan and also
get special treatment. I think on other threads i have also said
some other reasons why people hang flower .. amount them is
1. Face(already stated above)
2. Wash Money (for those with connection with the singer and company)
3. Claim Ent and share profit (for japs and korean who have fixed ent to spend, and they know the singer)
4. 2 much money dont know where to spend (those retired people and super rich lonely men)
5. Realy apreciate the singing and performance (there are a few)

as for flower king... well there are a few around the most famous is hai ke, da yen chen.. etc. these people are known around the hang flower world because they can spend continuous 5-6K a day for 7 days a week,30 days a month they usually visit a different KTV everynite, and avoid those extremely high class place because they want to stay low profile. and they always use cash. plus every now and then they will set a record of 40-100K. I am still wondering where they get the money.

Anyway, my experience is NOT to hang hugh flowers (more than $100) for the singers unless u know her very well. If u just been to the place for first time and wanted to test waters, just hang $20 to the singers that caught your attention. Then slowly build up and momentum with her getting to know her better. Slowly increase the amount($30, $50 to $100) as time goes by. Rule of flower hanging game, be patient...

Agree with the logic. However, why hang flower instead of giving direct tips to the singers got some psychological effect. Singers always try to differentiate themselves from hostesses and most of them want to be treated (or at least perceived to be treated) differently from the hostesses. Therefore, if you hang flowers, even if it is just $20, it shows you aprreciate their singing. If you ahng more, u help them meet their target, etc. Also, singers on stage will like to compete with each other as who got more flowers etc...
