Re: Chelsea FC - Supporters' Rally
Sir Alex is a people manager and supports his players through thick and thin. He is a leader and his players would literally "die" for him (as in the working world, there are bosses that we absolutely enjoy working with)
JM is the sort that players love playing for - not only is he technically astute, is a great motivator and openly supports his players. An asset to the club. |

Grant set to take over at Chelsea
Chelsea are set to name Avram Grant as their new manager replacing former boss Jose Mourinho, BBC Sport understands. The Israeli, who was the club's director of football, will take charge alongside assistant Steve Clarke. Grant will be confirmed as Stamford Bridge boss later today, BBC Sport's Garry Richardson has revealed. The 52-year-old is a close friend of Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich and his summer arrival at the club came after opposition from Mourinho. Mourinho told Grant not to interfere with team affairs but the Israeli's position was strengthened with a seat on the board. Grant previously held the position of technical director at Portsmouth before moving to Chelsea. He guided Israel to the brink of World Cup qualification in 2006, having also coached Israeli sides Maccabi Tel-Aviv and Maccabi Haifa. The appointment has been met with general surprise and former Chelsea player Pat Nevin thinks it will only be a short-term option. "It's an absolute certainty to be a short-term measure because they can't get the man they want," he said. "And the man I'm sure they want is (Russia manager) Guus Hiddink. He's not going to be available until Russia are out of the competition at the Euros in 2008." "If Avram Grant takes over the job in the mean time, and the Chelsea fans know that he was brought in and upset Jose, Avram Grant is going to be as welcome as Camilla at Diana's memorial." "This guy is not well-loved at Chelsea. He is not going to last." Another former Chelsea player Gavin Peacock agreed with Nevin and said Grant would need to work hard to maintain team morale. "If you're bringing in someone like Guus Hiddink, then you're bringing in someone of great repute, as for Grant, I don't know." "I think the heart of the team will be affected by Mourinho's departure. It will be very difficult to get the team spirit that Mourinho managed to manufacture very quickly at Chelsea." Meanwhile Avi Cohen, the chairman of the Israeli Football Association and friend of Grant, backed the move, although he too said it came as a surprise. "Avram Grant is very successful in Israel. He won the championship with several teams and he knows football," he said. "Even so it is a shock that he was chosen. He had said that he had a very good position at Chelsea. He is a very good friend of Abramovich and he believes in him." "I'm not sure that he won't be successful more than anyone else. If he has the ability he can be successful." [QUOTE=Glen2712;2287710]Grant set to take over at Chelsea
They have the wrong guy...Avram's challenge is to be better than JM LAST season...that is to win the Premiership (which I think is 2nd priority). Priority is to win the Champions League. Abrammovich may have could set him the target of winning both titles - let's see how he rally the players. At least, one major competitor has fallen off the radar for Man Utd this season |

Re: Chelsea FC - Supporters' Rally
Reaction to Mourinho's exit
The news of Jose Mourinho's departure from Chelsea has been met with disbelief within the football fraternity. The 'Special One' helped Chelsea win two Premier League titles, two League Cups and an FA Cup during his spell in charge at Stamford Bridge. Now one of the finest managers in the game finds himself unemployed. Below is a pick of the reaction to the news: "Once you take away the authority the manager has in signing players, you're on a slippery slope. "What I would say about Mourinho is his record is with underachieving players and when Andriy Shevchenko and Michael Ballack came in, it disturbed the balance. "They've never looked as fluid and that's because the manager probably did not himself believe that is the way they should be playing." Former England boss Graham Taylor "I think that half the team will have been affected badly and it's going to be hard to get that team spirit that Jose managed to manufacture." Former Chelsea forward Gavin Peacock "I'm absolutely astounded at what's happened. Winning football matches is what the game's about and he is a winning manager who puts a winning mentality in players' heads and they go and win things." Former Chelsea captain Ray Wilkins "The man is a superb coach. He'll be hugely missed and took Chelsea to a level they could have dreamed of a few years ago. He will be hugely missed." Former Chelsea player Pat Nevin P.S: List Of UPPEES is not in full due to the capacity limitation of the signature function (not be longer than 300 characters excluding BB Code markup). Re: Chelsea FC - Supporters' Rally
Terry Ruck Spelt The End
JOSE MOURINHO’S future as Chelsea manager was doomed after a dramatic bust-up with his trusted skipper John Terry. The Sun can reveal that Mourinho had become increasingly frustrated by Terry’s recent performances. And he had even raised the issue with the club’s medical department to see if they had an explanation. But when centre-back Terry heard what Mourinho had done he reacted furiously. And the England star had heated exchanges with the Blues boss before and after Tuesday’s dire 1-1 Champions League draw at home to minnows Rosenborg. A club source revealed: “News of their row reached the club’s directors, who were concerned it was proof that Jose was losing the dressing room.” Incredibly, Chelsea insisted they knew nothing about the shock development and claimed they had no plans to sack him - until suddenly confirming his exit in a statement at 1.45am today. Yesterday's high drama started when billionaire owner Roman Abramovich cancelled a business trip to hold an emergency summit with Director of Football Avram Grant and trusted director Eugene Tenenbaum. That was followed by a lengthy meeting between Chelsea’s three main powerbrokers — Tenenbaum, chairman Bruce Buck and chief executive Peter Kenyon. All three should have gone to last night’s official launch of Chelsea’s new DVD — which, ironically, only Mourinho attended. The catalyst was undoubtedly Abramovich, still furious after the dismal Euro draw with Rosenborg. I understand he was demanding to know:
A Blues source confirmed: “Roman is seriously p****d off. He’s beginning to think the club is becoming a laughing stock, which is the exact opposite of everything he wants to achieve.” Rom’s frustration with Mourinho is at an all-time high because he believes that whenever he demands something of the boss and his players, he is let down. Tellingly, on the eve of the Rosenborg match Kenyon revealed the Russian had a 10-year plan for Chelsea which included them being crowned champions of Europe TWICE. He added: “It’s about winning it in a style, in a manner befitting one of the best clubs in Europe.” There was precious little style on show against Rosenborg. Yesterday’s talks came two weeks after another meeting, called after the 2-0 defeat at Villa Park. Mourinho was told performances must improve or he would be held responsible. Before Tuesday’s game he bemoaned the quality of players available to him — comparing his squad to cut-price eggs. Re: Chelsea FC - Supporters' Rally
See ya later Lamps
When the moment came to say goodbye, Jose Mourinho picked up the phone and called his most trusted ally Frank Lampard. The Chelsea boss made an emotional call to Lamps at around 9.30 last night to tell him that, after today, he would no longer be his manager. Hardly surprising that the coach should choose to tell the news to the one man on whom he relied during the glory of the last three seasons. Later, the Portuguese coach texted other senior players to let them know that his time in charge had come to an end. Those who attended a premiere of the film about his tenure at the club the same evening already knew that something was very wrong. Mourinho arrived for the showing of ‘Blue Revolution’ — a documentary charting the life and times of Chelsea under Roman Abramovich. Red Rom did not show. He was involved in a board meeting at which the fate of Mourinho was decided. After two weeks when the team had failed to win in three attempts, Red Rom had had enough. The embarrassing 1-1 stalemate against little Rosenborg on Tuesday was enough to spark a crisis meeting immediately after the match. Abramovich cancelled a planned trip abroad to continue the debate and word got out there was trouble afoot at the Bridge. Those talks continued yesterday and culminated in a full afternoon board meeting. A spat with skipper Terry was taken as a sign that Mourinho had lost the confidence of the dressing room. He had questioned the performance of his captain with medical staff and was then confronted by Terry about his actions. Mourinho believed he had squared the situation but word got back to Abramovich that something was awry. A source close to Abramovich told SunSport last night: “Roman was already furious with the way things had been going. “It seemed everything he asked for from the team in the way they played turned out the opposite." “Roman is tired of saying one thing and seeing another. This is where it cracked.” With the Special One seemingly deciding he has had enough, a unique era in the history of Chelsea has come to an end. Whether Abramovich will stick around at the Bridge remains to be seen. Top 5 contenders to replace Jose
Guus Hiddink Dutchman has huge experience at the top level in both club and international football — and is already thought to be on the payroll of Roman Abramovich as the boss of Russia. Avram Grant Former Israel coach was the director of football at Premier League rivals Portsmouth before he quit Fratton Park to take up the same post at Stamford Bridge in the summer. Fabio Capello Italian is well-respected and with a long list of honours as boss of Juventus and AC Milan — and is out of work since being axed by Real Madrid after last season’s Spanish title success. Marcello Lippi Former Inter and Juventus chief quit as Italy boss after winning the World Cup in Germany last year. Has been strongly linked with Mourinho’s job at Chelsea ever since. Sven Goran Eriksson Done a stunning job since going back to club football with Manchester City in the summer. And the Swede has already been a Chelsea target — when he was still England manager.
