Sure you can buy SIM card in arrival hall of Noi Bai (Hanoi) airport. I use Vinaphone, but at least Vinatel cards are also sold. All of these work in HCM too.

If you want data+ voice package then you to register. They will charge some monthly fee. So it is not very practical for occasional travelers. For microSIM question I guess that they will do it.

Information as of 5th May 2013 and exchange rate of S$1=VND16,900

Prepaid SIM card with both voice+data:

Arrived at Hanoi (Nobai airport), there's a prominent orange booth selling SIM cards. It's such a common question that they simply pull out a piece of handwritten paper with all prices and package available for you to choose.

I choosed the cheapest plan which cost VND550K (~S$32). After a few days, learned from others that there are cheaper alternatives which they won't show you that cost USD3 for SIM and another USD3 for to top-up. Anyway, the package can last for 1 month and can be used at HCM as well.

Once you arrived at the hotel main entrance, enter and turn left. There's a staircase leading to the basement.

Charges (based on 2 person):

Room charges : VND1.4m (S$82)
Hostess : VND800K + VND500K = VND1.3m (S$77)

Liquor : Cheapest we saw from the menu is like VND4.xm. And only above VND5.8m, then room charges will be waived off. As we endup drop the idea and walk off, so I do not know whether the above charges include or exclude taxes. But I'm sure we need to tip mummy and servers which were not discussed in the conversation with the mummy.

If you doesn't want the room and sit in the hall, all except the room charges applied.

It's like a pub (2 level) with many hostess wearing sexy sexy roaming around. But never see any raba raba action like we see in Mask51 & etc. One key observation, if you order beer only, don't expect girls will come to your table unless you are handsome or ang moh tua kee.

We started drinking beer first, not sure what to drink and whether how much time we have (close at midnight). So no girls came to our table which we expected. The moment we ordered bottle, wah lau, everyone try to start serving you and gain your attention & etc. But we not sure how's the business model like, they go by tips or lady drinks, so we rejected most of them and left only one girl. But basically just drink and play games nia, nothing much loh.

End of the night, we spend VND7.7m (~S$456) for 2 bottles of whisky, 2 bottles of beer, fries and mixer The girl never strongly asked for tips and when we left, we also couldn't find her and tip her.

Lastly, they seems to have batches of stock. We went on Sunday and on Tuesday. Both nights, the girls are completely different (even the floor manager). Not sure how consistent is that.

Thing to note (not sure is it because we are foreigners) :

1. regardless of what you going to order, always avoid the fruits platter which they like to order so other girls (not from your table) can pinch on them for free.

2. When the bottle of liquor arrived, always checked that the bottle cap is sealed. When we ordered the 2.5m version, it was unsealed. Then we complained and order next higher grade @ 2.9m. However, they mentioned we need to pay VND100K more to be sealed. So we paid 3m for sealed bottle.

3. If you have left over, ensure that they give you a card to indicate that. They tried to push you away without a card and say don't worry they will remember. After some tussle, we managed to get a card for our return trip.

4. Receipt - They lump everything into a single line item. If you need to claim from office, before you ask for bill, indicate to them that you need itemized format (not sure whether that's possible or not).

5. Billing - They will only bill you towards the end of the session. Personally, I would prefer to bill the moment the goods arrived. Towards the end of session when you are likely to be intoxicated, very dangerous especially you using credit card and single line item.

Not sure whether the above help, anyway, just for information sharing and I'm sure some bros will labeled us as carrot. Ok lah, no choice loh, cannot speak and no experience, take it as school fees loh.

Generally, I feel HCM is cheaper and that's probably explain why Singapore KTV always flooded with girls from the South (though I met 3 from Hanoi before but rare).

Anyway, Boss KTV too ex for us, so we simply just walk off loh. As for 17, the prices are on the menu black and white, so no con lah. Just have to becareful of their pub tactics rather.
