Vietnam's property giant Vingroup decides to tap affordable apartment market
TUOI TRE NEWS UPDATED : 12/05/2016 11:21 GMT + 7 Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup has unveiled its new affordable property brand Vincity, which develops apartments for lower-income earners. The new brand is the property developer’s latest foray into the local real estate market, with its previous brands Vinhomes, Vincom, and Vinpearl focusing on luxury condos, shopping centers, and high-end resorts. Vingroup has announced its plan to build between 200,000 and 300,000 Vincity apartments starting from VND700 million (US$31,250) each over the next five years. The first phase of its projects will be launched in the seven major Vietnamese population centers of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang, Hai Phong, Hung Yen, Thanh Hoa, and Ha Tinh. The apartments will be located on the outskirts of these provinces and cities, reflecting the group’s ambition to form satellite urban areas that reduce population density and congestion in the central areas of established metropolises like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Vingroup’s vice chairman, Le Khac Hiep, has described the conglomerate’s ambitious project as a “makeover of Vietnam’s suburbs.” Despite their affordable price tag, Vincity apartments will retain the core values of a Vingroup property, which are quality, synchronicity, and utility, Hiep said. Vincity apartments will be developed as a part of self-sufficient mini-suburbs with integrated hospitals, schools, stadiums, shopping centers, and parks. Vingroup is Vietnam's largest listed property company by market capitalization. Its cash receipts from the sale of residential units and recurring revenue from its investment property portfolio – comprising retail, hospitality, healthcare and education businesses – increased strongly in 2014 and the first half of 2015, according to Fitch Ratings. Vingroup's cash sales from property development rose 73 percent to $649.7 million in 2014 and its pace of growth was sustained during the first six months of 2015, the rating agency said in a report earlier this month.

Traffic police open Facebook page in central Vietnam
TUOI TRE NEWS UPDATED : 12/05/2016 11:02 GMT + 7 Traffic police in the central Vietnamese city of Da Nang have launched their own official Facebook page to receive traffic updates from local residents across the city. The Traffic Police Division under the municipal Department of Police opened the page on Sunday, which is aimed at improving local traffic management. Local citizens can interact by posting updates on the situation in their neighborhood, photos and videos capturing traffic violations or accidents, and reports on the shortcomings of any officers or the city’s traffic system. The law enforcers will use the information to investigate and deal with offenders and make the necessary adjustments in an effort to ensure traffic safety in the central hub. The social media page will also provide consultation and answers to local residents’ questions regarding traffic regulations and procedures. Several opinions from Da Nang citizens have already been posted on the Facebook page since it first appeared, which have been responded to and noted by representatives of the city’s traffic police division.

Ecotourism: Beach-cleaning tours on Vietnam’s Phu Quoc Island
TUOI TRE NEWS UPDATED : 12/04/2016 10:51 GMT + 7 Many travelers on tours to Phu Quoc Island, off the southern Vietnamese coast, have jumped at a surprise offer from tour operators to take part in beach-cleaning activities as itinerary extras. The activities are part of the ‘Phu Quoc Green Tourism’ campaign, jointly run by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper and the administration of Kien Giang Province, which is located in southern Vietnam. Phu Quoc, dubbed ‘pearl island’ for its breathtaking beaches and vast forests, is an offshore district administered by Kien Giang, and is Vietnam’s largest island. Dozens of travelers on tours operated by Ho Chi Minh City-based Viet Media Travel and Phu Quoc-based Dong Doi Tourism on Friday enthusiastically joined in litter-picking activities at Dinh Cau Beach in Phu Quoc after they were given a surprise notice the day before by their tour guides. Among the participants were Vietnamese actress Viet Trinh and Tran Thanh Trung, vice chairman at local movie studio VnFilm, who cut short their diving and fishing itineraries to partake in the activities. “It’s a meaningful thing to do,” Viet Trinh told Tuoi Tre as she live-streamed the event on Facebook to raise awareness among her friends and followers. “I feel that this needs to be shared, and I hope the message will be passed on by my friends and family members on Facebook,” the actress said. As a tourist herself, Trinh said she understood how it felt to stand before a beautiful beach that had been turned ugly by litter. “It’s disappointing to visit a place that is filled with litter,” Trinh said to explain her motive for joining the activity. “Just imagine how much more beautiful our travel destinations would be if we were more sensible and put our garbage away.” Continue reading http://tuoitrenews.vn/lifestyle/3832...hu-quoc-island

Last update 11:46 | 15/08/2014 0 Pitaya prices fall as quality declines VietNamNet Bridge - Many exporters do not have enough dragonfruit to sell as the fruit grown in the central province of Binh Thuan is being sold for low prices because of its poor quality. Dragonfruit is sold for VND3,000 ($0.15) per kilo on the sidewalk in Saigon. HCM City-based Hugo Company, a veteran dragonfruit exporter to the United States, could not purchase a single kilo of quality dragonfruit for export last month. Picky markets such as America and Japan have high demand for quality dragonfruit from Vietnam. China, the largest importer of Vietnamese dragonfruit, however, has said mealy-bugs have been found on Vietnamese dragonfruit. The firm’s director, Vuong Dinh Khoat, said the demand from the American market is around 60-80 tons per month, but last month Hugo did not export any dragonfruit because he could not buy quality fruit. Only a handful of dragonfruit orchards are eligible to export to the United States. The Tam Vu dragon cooperative in Chau Thanh district in the Mekong Delta province of Long An still has quality dragonfruit for export but its head Truong Quang An says that the volume is small and unstable. During the harvest season, the cooperative bought 40-50 tons/day but sometimes it can purchase only several tons a day. "This year diseases are rampant, so only about 30 percent of our output is eligible for export. Thus we have to cancel a lot of orders," An says. Similarly, HCM City-based Hong An Import and Export Co., Ltd. also had to cancel many dragonfruit export orders to an Asian country due to lack of quality fruits, although they signed contracts at very high prices. Mr. Nguyen Huu Dat, Director of the Quarantine Center of Imported Vegetation, says that all companies exporting dragonfruit to picky markets like the US and Japan lack sources of supply. They have to frequently increase the purchase price. Poor harvest season Continue reading http://english.vietnamnet.vn/fms/spe...-declines.html
