ppc sunday exchange rate. 1sing= 4.95rmb
hope the rate will move towards the north...

Went down PPC yesterday expecting to see 4.96 or 4.97 since J8 $ changer is 4.94.
Disappointed to hear only 4.95.

Anyway approached one of the $ changer. He quoted me 4.956.
Ok, I tried changing SGD100. He took out calculator and press 500....then 105.
I think he want me to give him SGD105 to top up and he gave me RMB500.
Luckily I was alert. I did my calculations beforehand. 500/105 = 4.76!!!

KNN, he think I stupid! He further drop down to 103. 500/103 = 4.85!!!

I faster take my SGD100 and left.

I went back to J8 $ changer and change SGD100. Rate = 4.943
They are more honest. Ask me to top up to SGD101.20 to change RMB500.
They then gave me 5 cent change and RMB500. 500/101.15 = 4.943.
Even got receipt with calculation. No cheating. WYSIWYG.

Not trying to advertise for J8 $ changer. But just to high light some tricks $ changers might resort to. Do your sums right.

perhaps u shld specify which money changer is that ... and bros will be more careful when approaching them ...

bro .. is this money changer near to DBS in J8 ??
i have a bad experience last wk when i went there to change thai baht ..
the rate wasn't good and what horrify me is he doesn't have 1000baht notes ... so end up giving me a stack of 500baht thai notes ..

he shld have at least let me know abt it in the first place and i can have the option ...
bad service ....

but i agreed they never short change u .... right down to the cents ...

I actually went to PPComplex. That particular $ changer is outside the building and face the road. Next to OCBC ATM, IIRC. But I believe this age old trick is practice by most of the stores. It is just that u r careful or not.

Yes, it should be the most popular $ changer in J8. I'm not sure whether got another one. Sorry to hear about your exp. But I think as long no short change, still not too bad.

Thanks bro for the alert, personally never encountered this in ppc before, but will be more careful next time.

I always go to the Chinese family one outside the ppc facing the street and MR lift, look at their display and do some calculation myself 1st, then join the long queue there if want to exchange.

i went to tat operator and was quote 4.956 too.
0.6cent diff. unless i change like CASH KING 100k X 0.6cent=600rmb
otherwise will not see the diff.

I thought can get better rates in PPC. ATM freely available in PPC. If really need, then draw out lor. Although this is not CP, still not advisable to carry too many $......unless I'm CK.

That's true.....but if that cunning operator can try to makan a few dollar off me just changing SGD100,.......I think if CK is not alert........He might end up kenna swindled off thousands.

Was given 4.97 at new money changer at Suntec Convention Center yesterday 2pm. This is cash not TT rate.

Note ...this is not Fountain Money changer which is also located nearby. fountain is run by Chinese...the other one is Indian

U got a good deal there.. PPC remittance rate today is 4.97rmb.
