Man found dead outside Jalan Besar pub
Posted 12 Jul 2016 03:43 SINGAPORE: Police are investigating a murder of a 42-year-old man, who was found dead outside a pub along Jalan Besar on Monday (Jul 11) night. Police said they received a call for help at around 11.20pm. When they arrived, they found the man lying motionless outside Trey Hostel bar, next to KSP Pub & KTV. Paramedics pronounced the man dead at around 11.30pm. Channel NewsAsia understands that the suspect is on the run. Holland Village bank robbery: Suspect was in Bangkok within six hours of crime
The suspect, a Canadian, fled Singapore last Thursday with $30,000 in cash after robbing StanChart's branch in Holland Village. Police say he was identified on day of robbery but had already left Singapore. Ng Huiwen Within just six hours of the bank robbery in Holland Village, the suspect was roaming the streets of Bangkok. Former police officers told The Straits Times yesterday that they were puzzled as to how that could have happened. The suspect, a Canadian, had fled Singapore last Thursday with $30,000 in cash after allegedly robbing a Standard Chartered Bank branch in Holland Village at 11.25am that day. He is believed to have first escaped by foot towards the nearby Chip Bee Gardens estate. The suspect flew from Singapore and arrived in Thailand at about 5pm Thailand time (6pm Singapore time), said Major-General Apichart Suriboonya, who heads Thailand's Interpol unit. A total of 28,322 couples wed last year, a slight drop from the year before, when marriages hit a five-decade high of 28,407. Minister for Social and Family Development Tan Chuan-Jin wrote in his ministry's blog MSF Conversations on Wednesday: "Good to know that the number of marriages are more or less at status quo compared to (the year before). Overall, no drastic fluctuations." It also contained the same phrases that Canadian citizen David James Roach, 26, had allegedly written on a slip of paper used to rob the bank in Holland Village last Thursday (July 7). The note reportedly said: ""This is a robbery, I have a weapon, give me money, don't call police'." He had purportedly walked into the StanChart branch at around 11.30am, passed the teller the note with his demands, before he fled with about $30,000in cash. Shortly after, he boarded an AirAsia flight from Singapore and arrived at Bangkok's Don Muang Airport at about 5pm Thailand time (6pm Singapore time) on the same day.
