I don’t know why, I am really not a fan of roast duck. But when it comes to braised duck, it becomes a different story. When I was at Tekka Centre, many of you have recommended me to try Heng Gi Goose and Duck Rice. The rest have commented that the original stall owner, Uncle Yang, is no longer there and hence standard dropped. Thanks Rayner’s tip off, I found Uncle Yang at Hong Lim Food Centre with his new shop “Ah Heng Duck Rice”!

I guess I am not very particular about my braised duck, unless it is super tough. Just give me a bowl of rice, drizzled with some dark savoury sauce and a few pieces of duck, I am happy.

When I went on a weekday afternoon for lunch, Uncle Yang was helping to serve the rice and collecting money while another guy does the slicing of the meat. There wasn’t much crowd. Ah Heng Duck Rice has nice braised duck which is sliced thin, with a shiok chilli sauce dip. I like the Lor as it is the thin watery type and is sweeter still has enough umami.

Kong Kee Mutton Soup

羊肉最怕羊膻味，有人就因为这股异味，对羊肉敬而远之。
好吃的羊肉不但不能有羊膻味，肉还要够软嫩，而且不能带着一大块一大块的脂肪。位于惹兰勿刹的“江记羊肉汤 ”(Kong Kee Mutton Soup)就是其中一家。

“江记羊肉汤”是一间华人专卖的羊肉汤档口。摊主谢三妹是福清人，在惹兰勿刹卖羊肉汤已经有20多年的历史。

摊主每天早晨6点就开始熬汤，熬到中午时分，味道才属上乘。汤里加入羊骨及多种药材，如枸杞、当归、陈皮、川芎等，还用了罗汉果来取代味精，让汤喝起来天然甘甜。

上桌前，摊主会把碗里的羊肉，用热汤反复涮几次，把羊肉的油脂取出，然后加上适量的花雕酒、姜丝和芹菜，让羊肉汤喝起来不会太油腻。

haha just saying that most people probably get hungry easily at this timing.

Yes I know you are not and still under 20? Why I know, the answer is here. Maybe you got the impression that PP used that tone because she might mistaken your nick as a guy. Well might not be the case because regardless of gender, she might happened to find your post will some slight unfriendliness.

Anyone who lives in Ang Mo Kio long enough will know about this famous Yong Tau Foo stall. It is always long queue! The only time when it doesn’t have queue is when it is not opened.

To be frank, I am not a fan of Yong Tau Foo. But when I queue up for it, I am always after its soup or chee cheong fun. They added ikan bilis and soy beans into its soup, making it very very sweet and tasty. Just by drinking this won’t make you thirsty after the meal, because no MSG is added. When served, there is even a generous amount of soy beans in the soup.

There are close to 40 food items for you to pick. Not only the deep fried items are crunchy, they are very tasty too. I also like their silky soft tofu.

Xi Xiang Feng’s bee hoon is slightly different from the bee hoon in other noodle stalls. It is abit thicker and firmer, which gives the bite. Pairing it with chilli and sweet sauce is a wonderful combination. When some sesame seeds are sprinkled over, it tastes even better!

If it is your first time eating this Yong Tau Foo, please do not join the queue blindly. You have to pick the ingredients you want first BEFORE joining the queue.

Each piece of yong tau foo costs $0.30 onwards. Addition of bee hoon or noodles is $0.50. If you prefer the curry sauce instead of the usual soup, it costs $0.70. What is interesting here is they also serve chee cheong fun (to replace noodles) at $0.80 and $$$$$ at $3.
