=> Didn't know there is such a requirement - married, or not, to a local. it didn't happen to myself. And it doesn't make sense because it would imply expats (or foreigners) are required to marry locals in order to rent and stay, no matter which part of batam.

Batam center. Relatives and friends there helped... scouted Nagoya and Batam Center - took 2 weeks to eventually find, like, and secure the house though. There are gems (houses) out of Nagoya. Some of them are really affordable but just too big (like Villa Panbill) for my liking (not enough 人氣).

Currently i'm paying roughly around 260 a month for a apartment in Nagoya.

Depends lah bro koh if owner very strict muslim then wait long long until u get married certs but for my place owner chinese so long pay rent no problem...but thing is just a room that sucks bro micmac is the lucky one sgd$250 for a whole hse is very cheap liao some more plus utilities.my apart at sky garden last time cost me sgd$400 but utilities not included bro micmac got quite a bargain..

Bro - there confirmed are. But takes time to hunt to one's personal liking. There confirmed are - just skip the usual tourist-hotspots like Nagoya, Jodoh and Penuin.

Yes,they dont change girls every now and then,they change their girls every other months becos most girls are on either 3 to 6 months contract with the shops. So everytime a place is no good,i avoid for a while (abt 2 to 3 months) before going back to check out again,hehehe...sometime can even find gems.

Yes,when it comes to girls,luck plays a very important role. The sad thing in booking joint is good girls always get "sold away". Meaning the richer (and hornier) men will "da bao" them and keep as mistress....and the bad ones at most time will still be there until their contract is over.

I read this thread ,other online forums and my weekly PMs of FRs, joints with consistently bad service or OKTs teaching the girls stuffs harmful to clients,i will also avoid.I read all FRs and keep tab on all good and bad joints,pool them together to know the good/bad. I will usually feedback instead of complain to respective shops,and if things arent improved,i put their shops on my signature under to-avoid or lousy joint. They dont deserve good business. Their good business equates to more people get cheated.

Most time,I will bargain from 50k to 30k from anywhere within Harbour Bay to Nagoya area unless i am going to places like Sekupang/Nongsa. As far as i have read,taxi drivers in Batam look at people before they quote their price. What i have gathered are :

Ang Mo tourist : Usually 50k and/or above (as high as 80k a times)
Asian tourist : Usually 40k-50k but can bargain to below 50k (bargaining skill varies)
Local : Usually around 25k to 35k (what i seen so far)

But during holiday season or peak season,they dont bother to bargain with me (meaning they wont lower their price as demand is higher). Of course there will be techniques on how to get 30k taxi,eg flagging a taxi at Departure Hall (near Horizaon ferry counter in Harbour Bay) where taxi drop passenger off instead of outside the terminal after you just check out from Batam custom. Or you can move out of further away from harbour to flag a cab. Most time, 1st 3 person in Harbour Bay who approach me for taxi,i will always reject w/o even bargaining,hehehe...

....whereby the taxi is charge by meter. Still it will cost between 25k to 30k most time as i usually dont take back my change.

At times if i am travelling alone,i take an ojek aka motorbike taxi which cost about 20k. I learn in this thread from a bro that i should step out of taxi to make payment thru the taxi driver's car window after i reach my destination.I will always have exact amount to pay the taxi driver too becos most taxi driver will tell me no change when the cost of taxi is 30k and i give them 50k note. I also make sure i tell the taxi driver its "30 ribu" instead of "30 dollar" becos i seen a bro being charge S$30 from point A to point B becos he didnt specific the currency type.

Hope my experience helps.

Side note : Entering the gate to Nagoya Hill Mall is easy,the fee is 2k rupiah,but during peak hour,taxi driver require a much longer time to move out from the mall to the main road. There is always a jam at the main entrance of the mall where taxi pick up and drop off passengers,fyi.

Actually i am more interested in parts and the smaller electronic devices that was brought in to Batam,not just from Sillypore. Example,if i have a pentium 3 computer,there wont be any parts available in Sillypore at a low price unless i am looking into a 3rd world country. I wasnt looking to sell,but more towards trying to understand what Carnaval Mall has to offer. I have the chance to visit a 2nd hand car spare part shop in Batam before. My only hope is,Carnaval mall wouldnt be as bad as the 2nd hand car spare part shop (most of these parts i heard are from Sillypore which are in REAL bad condition in their appearance).
