Yishun is NOT an isolated case as what the LTA has claimed. The exact same thing happened in Jurong, maybe even worse (pictures attached)! Many jogging & bicycle lanes were built around my residential area (Choa Chu Kang GRC) circa 2011-2012 (after GE2011) but circa 2013-2014, they demolished most if not ALL of the lanes & spent months to rebuild almost the same thing in design but in different colors (from Orange/Pink to Blue/Purple).
The other differences are that the old lanes were built on very uneven ground, questionable & dangerous routes. So when they were removed, the ground was leveled flat & the entire building process was repeated.
Double the air & noise pollution!
Today, they are still painting, removing & then re-painting these lanes from time to time.
In the first place, I do not understand why the original lanes were NOT properly planned & built on safe & flat ground. Maybe it’s only after a few accidents that this PAP or LTA or yes-men advisors commented that few people dared use the original lanes cause they were too bumpy & risky to jog/cycle on. (Would you jog & cycle on dangerous bicycle lanes? If you want to train your bicycling skills in dangerous terrain or trail-run, you would go to Bukit Timah or MacRitchie nature reserve, not these lanes, full of cracks, bumps, traps, blindspots etc.)
Do the PAP town councils or LTA understand the meaning of ‘Do it once, do it good’?
Why were the original lanes built without the consent or a vote from the residents? At the very least, consult & listen to feedback from residents if you insist on building them.
Yes, I understand by voting for PAP, you are voting for all their policies for the next 5 years. But, I voted for the opposition. When this PAP town council or LTA decided to rebuild the whole damn thing, who is really paying & repaying for them? Yes, the residents. But this 5-year town renewal programme’s budget is S$450 million (a lot of taxpayers’ money), so perhaps the PAP and/or LTA miscalculated that they could afford to spend just like how PAP overspent on the ‘Youth Olmypics Games 2010′ budget by over S$300 million?
Imagine if you are forcefully assigned a contractor, who designed & built your HDB home. Later, he demolished it & rebuilt essentially the same thing, because he failed to realise the original design was built with the wrong material.
The irony is this: there are 2 specific lanes that are super well-maintained & kept especially clean. The other lanes in comparison are neglected. These ’2 SPECIAL elitist lanes’ are directly in front of a PAP office (where meet-the-people sessions are held) & a PAP Community Foundation kindergarten. Not to mention, these 2 VIP lanes are where PAP do all the baby-carrying, ribbon cutting, tree-planting, photo ops for the PAP magazine (PETIR) & the 154th-rank state-controlled media.
~
I remember a speech from a prominent opposition candidate in GE2011, “For the next 5 years, do you want a fresh coat of paint in your void deck, or do you want a voice to speak up for you in Parliament?”
~
Not only did 60% of my fellow Singaporeans vote for a fresh coat of toxic PAP paint but also made opposition voters like myself pay-and-pay & then repay double cause they keep repainting!
I thought this Jurong ‘PAP’s Bicycle Lanes of Death’ was an isolated case until I read the above TRE article. I was shocked when I realised LTA actually had the audacity to claim that Yishun was an isolated case! I must start taking pictures/videos & blog about any new building projects that happens around my area.
Seriously, there is no transparency & no accountability from PAP town councils and/or LTA. Fyi, my PAP MP was a walkover MP riding on the coat-tails of anchor ministers (parachuted into parliament through the GRC backdoor) from previous elections prior to GE2011. A true ‘Political Winner’ just like a certain ‘Kee Chiu’ minister.
Perhaps ‘they’ would blame this latest cock-up on stray dogs and/or alcohol?
