DPM Teo said that Singapore and China are looking at new ways to collaborate.

He was speaking to reporters from Xinhuanet as he said that Singapore and China are planning to start another government-to-government project in the West of China similar to the industrial parks already at Suzhou and Tianjin.

DPM Teo said that, currently they are planning to either collaborate on a modern connectivity or modern services project but talks are still only in early stages.

Already, Singapore is China’s biggest foreign investor and China is Singapore’s biggest trade partner. With these further government to government collaborations, it is hoped that both countries can benefit even further from good relations.

Mr Teo also spoke about the future plans for both the Suzhou and Tianjin joint projects suggesting that Singapore and China could work together in more advanced manufacturing, innovation, R&D and also major transport links.

Next year also marks the 25th anniversary for the China-Singapore relations and DPM Teo said that the two countries enjoy broad and substantive ties which benefit both nations.

He hoped that Singapore and China would continue to find new ways to collaborate and grow closer including learning from each other in areas such as social governance.

It is interesting that despite Singapore’s history of despising communists and the recent ban on a film sharing the views of the “communist terrorists”, Singapore is jumping forward to cooperate more with the Communist China government.

Is the government only taking a stance against communism when it is convenient for them to do so in order to hold onto power?
