If your sole intention is to widen your circle, the fastest way is to join threads where people idle chat all day and eventually meet them up during periodic gatherings. Hanging around waiting for people to approach you... well, its a rather long shot and you definitely gotta juice up your writing.:D

But if you are hoping to get laid, there's more work to be done...
